The reimagined leisure centre is part of Bolton Council’s Farnworth Town Centre Masterplan.
The plan was drawn up in 2019 following extensive consultation with local people. This repurposed space is a shining example of the remarkable outcomes achievable when communities come together to secure the Government’s Future High Streets Funding.
The original Farnworth Leisure Centre was built in the brutalist style, where form strictly followed function; hence, there were no windows in the gym. Our refurbishment promotes greater connectivity with the surrounding environment with a highly permeable façade. This new design is strikingly modern and not only enhances the building’s original form and materiality but also promotes a greater sense of connection with the community.
